O / C floors

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the German soil systematics, soils are referred to as O / C soils , which consist of organic material in connection with an almost unweathered, stony surface. In the class of O / C soils (class F) are the soil types of rock humus (FF) and skeletal humus soil (FS).

The name of the class refers to the two characteristic soil horizons :

In the rock humus soil there is an organic layer on the rock; on the skeletal humus floor this slipped into the crevices of the loosely lying stones. In both cases, however, the stony material is virtually unweathered, so that there is no transition zone between the materials. So humus and rock can be separated from each other without any effort.

O / C soils can be found in locations that are highly prone to erosion.
