This Means War (AKA This Means War ) is a US action - comedy of director McG from the year 2012 . It's about two secret agents, played by Chris Pine and Tom Hardy , who fall in love with the same woman played by Reese Witherspoon .

action

After an unsuccessful assignment in Hong Kong against the internationally wanted criminal Karl Heinrich, the two CIA colleagues and best friends FDR Foster and Tuck Henson are transferred to the office. Since there isn't much to do there, Tuck gets to know the attractive and personable Lauren through a dating portal. However, FDR also encounters Lauren in a video store independently of Tuck. When the friends discover that they are both courting the same woman, they decide to turn it into a competition that Lauren doesn't know about.

Lauren meets the two men independently several times, with competitors abusing intelligence and intelligence personnel to gain an advantage. Lauren comes under more and more pressure. However, when Karl Heinrich travels to the USA to take revenge on FDR and Tuck, who are responsible for the death of his brother, the two have to confess to Lauren that they have known each other for a long time. When they are about to leave a restaurant, Karl Heinrich and his men suddenly appear and a chase begins, at the end of which Karl Heinrich is killed. Lauren is placed in a life-threatening situation in which she has to choose her true love, and her choice falls on FDR. Tuck, in turn, is welcomed with open arms by his divorced wife and son after they watched the chase on TV and discovered that Tuck was actually a secret agent, not a tour operator.

background

The film That Gets Trouble was planned years before the actual start of production, initially with Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock in the leading roles. However, the project did not materialize. In the years that followed, the script was developed and various actors were considered for the lead roles.

The role of Tuck Henson was also offered to Sam Worthington . After he refused, Tom Hardy took over the role.

The film was originally scheduled to hit  theaters in the United States on February 14, 2012 - for Valentine's Day . However, the production company 20th Century Fox postponed the official start date to February 17, 2012, as this was to avoid competition between the film and the romantic drama Forever Love (The Vow) . Instead, the film was shown as a surprise premiere on February 14, 2012 in around 2000 cinemas . In Germany, the film was released in cinemas on March 1, 2012.

Reviews

“A career low point for all three of his lovable stars. That gives trouble is loud, cumbersome and neither romantic nor funny. "

- Translation of the English review by Rotten Tomatoes

“When trying to please all viewers, the film stumbles a lot. The cartoon-like action scenes, which are unsuitably harsh in some details, hardly fit into the story and seem like a mere concession to the male audience. [...] Original gags, on the other hand, are in short supply. [...] At the finale, the sloppy script makes it very easy for itself and loses the last bit of credibility. "

- Louis Vazquez : Bayerischer Rundfunk

“Two super spies fight over a woman and the audience has fun. It's as simple as that. It causes trouble to rewrite and it works because director McG and his writing duo never try to make much more of it. They skillfully combine the genres of action and romantic comedy into an extremely entertaining film "
