Laura Dianne Vandervoort (born September 22, 1984 in Toronto , Ontario , Canada ) is a Canadian actress .

life and career

Vandervoort's mother is Canadian while the father is from the Netherlands . Just a few weeks after she was born, Vandervoort fell ill with meningitis that lasted for several months, after which her parents were informed that she would hardly survive it.

Vandervoort began karate at the age of seven and was awarded the Second Degree Black Belt by the Northern Karate Schools at the age of 16 . She also tried soccer , basketball , tennis , baseball and gymnastics . She has another sister. Your third cousin is the award-winning Canadian actor Gordon Pinsent of Newfoundland .

Vandervoort started her career at the age of 13. After taking acting classes for a while and working in the background of a few Canadian television programs , including Road to Avonlea , and then shooting a few commercials, she got her first speaking roles in the Canadian children's series Goosebumps - The Hour of Ghosts and Horror, Horror, Goosebumps .

These first steps in front of the camera were followed by the lead role in the Disney Channel Original Movie Mama's Rendezvous with a Vampire and numerous guest appearances in Canadian TV series and films, including Mutant X and Prom Queen - One Like No One . When she was studying psychology and English at York University at the age of 19 , Vandervoort got the lead role of Sadie Harrison in the CTV music series Instant Star , which she played in all four seasons of the series.

This was followed by a few other guest appearances in television series, including in CSI: On the trail of the perpetrators , before she appeared in 2007 in the seventh season of the US American The CW series Smallville as Clark Kent's cryptonian cousin Kara Kent (Kara Zor -El) or Supergirl was seen. She took on this role again in the eighth season of the series in the episode Son of Zod (original title: Bloodline ), as well as in two episodes of the tenth and final season of Smallville .

She also played from 2009 to 2011 in the US science fiction series V - The Visitors , a new edition of the 1980 series V - The Extra Terrestrial Visitors Are Coming , the role of Lisa , daughter of the leader of the Vs. In 2009, Vandervoort played a leading role in Into the Blue 2 - The Golden Reef . Vandervoort also works as a voice actress, for example in the video game Spider-Man: Edge of Time , released in 2011 , in which she lent Mary Jane Watson her voice. In 2012 she had a small role in Seth MacFarlane's comedy Ted , opposite Mark Wahlberg .

Since 2013, Vandervoort has played the lead role of Elena Michaels in the mystery television series Bitten , which is based on the Women-of-the-Otherworld book series by Kelley Armstrong and premiered on January 13, 2014 on Syfy TV .

In February 2014, Vandervoort got engaged to British actor and presenter Oliver Trevena. In March 2015, they broke their engagement and separated. Vandervoort currently resides in Los Angeles , California .
