Santa & Mrs. Claus (Original Title: Finding Mrs. Claus ) is a Canadian Christmas film from 2012 directed by Mark Jean . Jessica Claus, played by Mira Sorvino , is asked by little Hope at Christmas to help her find a suitable husband for her often very sad mother Noelle ( Laura Vandervoort ).

action

Christmas is not far off when Mrs. Claus looks forward to celebrating her 500th wedding anniversary with her husband Santa Claus. She hopes that Santa will take time out again and show her that he loves her. But when he fell asleep again that evening, exhausted on his bed, Jessica Claus, in her loneliness, sadly picks up a sack of letters that children have sent to her husband. When she got hold of the letter from little Hope, which was also addressed to her, she was on fire for her wish that Mrs. Claus would help her to find a suitable husband for her mother Noelle, because when her mom was Feeling unobserved, she often cries.

And so it happens that Mrs. Claus asks the house elf Calvin to help her get to Las Vegas, where Hope lives, so that she can attend to the child's request. Enchanted glitter dust transforms the older Mrs. Claus into Jessica, a lush, red-haired beauty in a body-hugging dress and high heels.

Kris Claus, who has since noticed that his wife is gone, makes bitter accusations that he hardly looked after her and deeply regrets his behavior. When he makes the decision to look for Mrs. Claus on earth, the house elf Anika is worried, because so shortly before Christmas Santa actually has to take care of the Christmas presents. Kris, however, is not deterred and goes on Jessica's footsteps together with Calvin. But when he sees her again, she is in high spirits in a casino and is surrounded by numerous men. Should she really be looking for a new man? A hotel complex is attached to the casino, where the musician Myles Harper works at the bar. Noelle is also employed in the hotel and, so to speak, the right hand man of Duncan, the manager. Duncan is an unpleasant, greedy man who does anything to get people's money out of their pockets. As it turns out later, he does not shy away from criminal activities.

After Kris Claus succeeds in getting in touch with Mrs. Claus, they assure each other that they love and need each other. As a surprise, Kris Claus arranged for the couple to renew their vows and even have their songs sung. Santa reminds them that they have to go back to the North Pole as there is still much to do. However, Mrs. Cloud asks him to use his magic to help her with a task that she absolutely has to do. And of course Santa doesn't refuse her.

While Noelle and Myles attend a school play of Hope, it is not the first time that it becomes apparent how important Myles is to the girl. When Hope gets scared of performing in front of so many people, it is he who helps her overcome this shyness. Together they sing Let it Snow! ... and Myles calls out to the people that he thinks that you have to spend the Christmas days with people who really mean something to you and that he is spending them with Hope and her mother Noelle. On the way back from the event, Myles' car suddenly breaks down and, as if by magic, Mr. and Mrs. Claus appear. Of course, Jessica has not remained hidden that there is a special relationship between Myles and Noelle and that the young man who dreams of singing on a big stage takes very loving care of both Noelle and Hope. She expresses what Noelle has not wanted to admit to herself, as Myles is swarmed by many women, namely that she feels more for him than just friendship. Before Mr. and Mrs. Claus say goodbye, Santa Claus snaps his fingers and Myle's car is ready to drive again. Just before the sleigh with the reindeer takes off, a shooting star falls to the ground, which leads to Noelle and Myles hugging and finally kissing. And then, to Hope's great joy, it also starts to snow.

In the car Hope finds a little dog, a present from the two Claus' and for Noelle there is a considerable amount of money in a Christmas sack and the advice: "At Christmas we should remember how much we mean to each other." It doesn't take much time until Mrs. Claus receives a letter from Hope containing an invitation to her mother's wedding to Myles.

criticism

Jason Rugaard found for Film Mavericks Podcast that the film had two attractive leads, Sorvino and Vandervoort, and that this romantic comedy was actually quite amusing for the holidays, as it used the good performances of its actors, which benefited the audience. Finally, Rugaard posed the rhetorical question, how could one go wrong with the breathtaking Vandervoort?

Andy Webb of The MovieScene wrote that at first glance it seems like this is another typical Christmas film for television with the ingredients lonely mom, beautiful bartender with a heart and of course a cute child. This suggests that it is one of the usual Christmas films for television. But one shouldn't let that stop you from giving the film a chance, because it is endowed with a lot of humor. The film is family entertainment, but more for a family with older children than with small children. The film is a “real gem” for those who know how to enjoy Christmas films. This comedy film has what it takes to become a film that is repeatedly brought out at Christmas time - also thanks to the cast.

TV Spielfilm pointed its thumb up and drew the conclusion: “We'll turn a blind eye for the party ;-).” It also said: “What you always wanted to know about Santa's love life, but never dared to ask, reveals you this mild farce from Canada. It's inexpensive and of course totally transparent, but it also offers a few cute frivolities that weren't necessarily to be expected. "
