action

The film describes the life of the African American Rosa Parks , who became world famous for her role in the civil rights movement in the USA. She refused to be segregated on a bus and sat in a seat reserved for whites. She was then sent to prison. This led to demonstrations and a bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama ; This lasted 381 days from 1955 to 1956.

The film shows their background and the racial discrimination that prevailed in Alabama's and southern society . Rosa was raised by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) as a child . She was encouraged to fight segregation. As a young woman, still in her teens, she married the hairdresser Raymond Parks, a civil rights activist. She joined the local NAACP office despite her husband finding the organization ineffective.

On December 1, 1955, Parks refused to vacate a white seat on the bus. This action and her arrest led to numerous protests and the formation of the Montgomery Improvement Association . Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the main organizers of the bus boycott. Eventually the US Supreme Court ruled that bus segregation was illegal. This sparked further protests and was a milestone in the African American fight for equal rights.
