action

The adolescent motorcycle enthusiast lives with his family in California. During the day he leads a normal life in college, but on the weekends he is with his father at night with the Black Knights, a motorcycle gang in which his father is chief mechanic for the best driver Smoke. Smoke is the self-proclaimed King of California as he has emerged as the winner in every street race to date.

When a racer and kids' father both die in an accident during a race one evening, it is a hard blow for Kid and his family, but also for the Black Knights.

Six months later, the Kid's family has found their way back to everyday life and Kid goes to a Black Knights meeting for the first time since the accident. When he interferes in a race between two street bikers, which is considered dishonorable among the group, but wins, he is excluded from the group's smoke. In order to challenge Smoke to a race and gain respect for the Black Knights, he finally founds his own motorcycle gang with two friends: The Biker Boyz. Over time, he wins some street races and money, but is also caught by police for illegal street racing. His mother and a member of the Black Knights can quickly release him on bail, but his mother, who had not known about his activity until then, learns something about it. She demands from him his promise not to drive any more illegal races, which the Kid accepts. He now spends a lot of time with his new girlfriend Tina, who works as a tattoo artist.

By chance, however, Kid learns that his late father was not his birth father, but that Smoke is his father. Driven by insecurity and anger, he is now returning to the leadership position of the Biker Boyz, as he kept a promise to his mother, but she withheld the truth from him all these years. When a hostile gang grinds the Biker Boyz after a street racer victory, Smoke, who has now been informed about his son by Kids 'mother, is on Kids' side with his Black Knights and helps them.

Since father and son still have serious differences, they decide to settle their dispute through a race in which the loser has to give up his racing career. When it finally comes to the duel between the two best drivers, Kid from the Biker Boyz and Smoke from the Black Knights, Smoke is close but certainly in the lead, but lets Kid win. Kid, who is now the new King of California, makes peace with Smoke after the race and realizes that he learned some life lessons from his father and has now gone from boy to man.

Reviews

Robert Koehler wrote in Variety magazine on January 29, 2003 that the film was following a trend that emerged after The Fast and the Furious and was something for motorcycle fans. Laurence Fishburne plays " solid ".

The lexicon of international film wrote that the film was “ full of speed and pathos ”. He explains that " although it makes you familiar with the rituals of biker culture, " he says, " through the hectic change in style, unimaginative staging and the unbearable image of women , he offers little entertaining ".

Others

The original three character motorcycles that were used in the film were all sold to private collectors after the shooting was completed. In February 2010, Dogg's Kawasaki Ninja was on the American eBay.

The original yellow and black biker boyz jacket, which every member of the gang wears in the film, is very popular among fans. However, since only a small limited edition was made for sale of this jacket, these jackets are currently almost purely collector's items.
