Marcia Gay Harden (born August 14, 1959 in San Diego , California ) is an American actress and Oscar winner .

Life

Harden was born in La Jolla . She comes from a large family. She studied theater studies at the University of Texas at Austin and at New York University (Tisch School of the Arts). In 1993 she starred in the play Angels in America.

Since appearing in Ethan's and Joel Coen's mafia film Miller's Crossing in 1990, until her breakthrough ten years later, she made films with Space Cowboys and Pollock in addition to cinema and television films. In 2001 she received an Oscar for Pollock , in 2003 an Oscar nomination for Mystic River . She also received the 2009 Tony Award for Best Actress in the play The God of Carnage .

Harden was married to prop master Thaddaeus Scheel from 1996 to 2012 and has three children.
