Mercy Streets - Street of Forgiveness (Original title: Mercy Streets ) is a film drama released in 2000 and was the directorial debut of the independent filmmaker Jon Gunn, who shows here a story about warring brothers reminiscent of Cain and Abel . Its main actor David White plays a double role as a gangster and a priest . Eric Roberts acts as gang boss and Stacy Keach acts as divorced man of God.

The twin brothers John and Jeremiah were separated at an early age in the orphanage and have completely lost sight of each other. John spent his entire childhood in homes and has felt abandoned by his brother ever since. Jeremiah, on the other hand, grew up believing that John was then dead. While John fell under the influence of the criminal Rome and is still working for him, Jeremiah grew up in a religious family and now serves as a chaplain for the Episcopal Church. When John loses a large amount of cash due to clumsiness and bad luck, he flees from the maddening Rome and is mistaken for Jeremiah. The real Jeremiah, on the other hand, is mistaken for John by Rome and taken prisoner. The result is that the two brothers, who grew up separately and who knew nothing about each other's life, suddenly switched roles and faced unexpected tasks. But both men manage to adapt to the new situation. After all, John hates Jeremiah for having such a comfortable life and Jeremiah hates John for becoming a criminal. In the end there is a dramatic showdown between the two with an uncertain outcome.

In the commentary on the DVD version, director and screenwriter Jon Gunn reports that Eric Roberts initially assumed that he would play the two dissimilar brothers himself.
