action

Katie Compton, it looks like, is committing suicide. The police officer, Henry Smovinsky, who was married to her years ago, receives custody of their sixteen-year-old son Adam. Both are strangers and don't get along well at first.

Henry finds out that his ex-wife was a high-class prostitute in the police milieu and was murdered. Henry's colleague, Maggie Furness, suspects Adam going into hiding. Henry is later suspected. He finds Adam and, together with him, searches for the real murderer who was a suitor in Katie's apartment. When her son got home, there was an argument and scuffle with the customer, causing Katie to fall over the balcony railing. The guilty policeman Dennis tries to kill Adam and Henry, but is shot dead by Maggie in self-defense. In a happy ending, Henry, Adam, Maggie and their daughter are united in a family idyll.
