Lost Girl is a Canadian mystery series that premiered on September 12, 2010 on the Canadian cable broadcaster Showcase . The series was developed by Michelle Lovretta and is produced by Jay Firestone and Prodigy Pictures in association with Shaw Media . The series describes the life of a succubus named Bo who tries to control her special abilities and find her unknown parents.

The fourth season of the series ended in Canada in February 2014, and a fifth was ordered a short time later. This will also be the last season and split into two halves, each with eight episodes. The first half aired from December 7, 2014 to January 25, 2015, the second from September 6 to October 25, 2015.

action

The series is about Bo, a supernatural being who grew up among humans. She is a succubus , which can deprive people and other supernatural beings of their life energy when kissing and thereby kill them. After accidentally killing her childhood sweetheart, she escapes from home and leads a lonely nomadic life. After a certain time Bo develops a hunger for a person's life energy and then has to kill someone, after which she moves on to another place. In the first episode, Bo saves a human girl named Kenzi, who from now on becomes her companion and friend. Confronted with the elders of the supernatural beings who call themselves Fae , she is introduced into their world. Bo deliberately decides against one of the two sides light ( light ) or darkness ( dark ), because she doesn't want to be just a pawn of the two powers that have distrusted each other for millennia and are on the verge of war.

With Kenzi by her side, Bo starts working as a private detective. Both Light and Dark Fae make use of their services because they are the only neutral person who can move on the territory of the other faction. In her investigation she is supported by the police officer Dyson, his partner Hale and the bar owner Trick, who, like Kenzi, play an important role in her life. The human doctor Lauren, with whom she develops a romantic relationship alongside Dyson, helps her with a drug to suppress the greed for life energy. Her exact ancestry remains largely unknown during the first season, but there are repeated indications that she is of great importance. The search for her identity initially determines Bo's life. During the second season she finds out more about herself and gets to know the world of the Fae better. She is getting stronger, but is also increasingly confronted with her fears and has to work harder to protect her friends.

Production and broadcast

Showcase extended the series after good ratings and reviews for a second season, which aired from September 4, 2011. The production of a third season was announced in December 2011 and aired from January 6 to April 14, 2013. On February 28, 2013 Showcase announced the extension for a fourth season. This was broadcast between November 10, 2013 and February 16, 2014. A few weeks after the season finale, the series was extended for a fifth season. In August 2014 it was announced that the series would end with the fifth season. Because of this, the number of episodes has been increased from 13 to 16. Furthermore, this season is divided into two parts. The first eight episodes aired from December 7, 2014, and the others from September 6 to October 25, 2015.

Broadcasting in the German-speaking area

On March 4, 2013, Sony Pictures Television announced that the series would be shown at the launch of the new pay-TV channel Sony Entertainment Television . From April 22 to June 2, 2013, the first season in German was broadcast there, followed immediately by the second season from June 2 to August 18, 2013, mostly in double episodes. From January 5 to February 17, 2014, the station showed the third season. From July 1 to August 12, 2014, the fourth season was broadcast in double episodes.

In July 2013, the broadcaster Super RTL announced the acquisition of the broadcasting rights to Lost Girl for German free TV . The station began broadcasting on October 16, 2013 and showed the first season until January 15, 2014. The second season followed immediately afterwards.
