Jay Firestone (born October 31, 1956 in the suburbs of Toronto , Ontario , Canada ) is a Canadian producer of television series and films .

Life

Firestone was born in a suburb of Toronto, the third of six children. His Jewish parents are called Esther and Paul. He studied commerce and graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton , Ontario in 1979 with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) . He married Sherry Barad, who studied at the University of Toronto and first worked as a certified accountant at KPMG . Firestone soon joined the film industry, which he has been in for over twenty years. He often produced as executive producer internationally broadcast Action -Fernsehserien such as Nikita with Peta Wilson and Roy Dupuis , Raven - The Immortal with Elizabeth Gracen , Relic Hunter - The Treasure Hunter with Tia Carrere , Mutant X with Victoria Pratt , Andromeda with Kevin Sorbo and Films like The Girl Opposite with Elisha Cuthbert .

In 1985 Firestone co-founded Alliance Communications Corporation (now Alliance Atlantis Communications Corp. ) and rose to Vice Chairman in 1992. After ten years he left this media company and founded Fireworks Entertainment Inc. in Toronto in January 1996. He held the positions of President and Chief Executive Officer . Two years later it was the fourth largest film production company in Canada. It was acquired by CanWest Global Communications Corp. in May 1998 . , an international media company and largest publisher of daily newspapers in Canada, for a tens of millions of dollars. As chairman and chief executive officer of CanWest Entertainment , Firestone dealt with film productions in Los Angeles , where for example Rat Race - The Naked Madness , Hardball with Keanu Reeves , Interstate 60 and The Believer were produced. The Believer won awards at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival and Moscow International Film Festival . Firestone worked with Samuel Goldwyn and Carl Icahn film companies . After five years, he left CanWest Global Communications Corp. at a time when global demand for action series had waned. Firestone continues to have international business relationships, for example with Amicus Productions and Intermedia Film .

In 1995, Firestone won a Gemini Award for ReBoot for Best Computer Animated Television Series. In 1998 he was nominated Entrepreneur of the Year . He was nominated twice at the Gemini Awards for the Nikita agent series , namely in 1998 for a Canada's Choice Award and in 1999 for Best Dramatic TV Series. He shared these two nominations with producer Jamie Paul Rock . In 2001, Firestone was nominated for Caitlin's Way for Best Children's Television Series at the Gemini Awards.
