The French Canadian Fantasy TV series Raven - The Immortal (OT: Highlander: The Raven) is a spin-off series (English spin-off ) of the series Highlander based on the eponymous movie is based. The series started in 1998 and was produced in Canada . Due to poor audience ratings, it was discontinued after just one season.

Intro

As in Highlander - The series , each episode of the offshoot series Raven begins with an intro, which has the following wording:

“She is immortal. Over 1,000 years old. And she can't die. A mythical creature. Like the raven. According to legend, he stole the sun and moon. A warrior was sent to look for him. He found him. Together they brought light back to earth. I was a cop. To me she was just a criminal like any other thief. But it wasn't. It changed my life. Everything changed. We both knew that nothing would be the way it used to be. "

action

The series revolves around the Immortal Amanda, who already made many appearances in the original series. There she was a constant companion of Duncan MacLeod. With the offshoot series, the concept was completely tailored to the role of Amanda. Amanda, the thief, meets the police officer Nick Wolfe, who wants to take her to prison as a criminal. But when Amanda and his partner die in a firefight, he sees Amanda come back to life. Amanda tells him about the immortals, they become friends and form a kind of duo from then on. However, Nick Amanda clearly shows that he detests the life of immortals. He cannot accept that you have to kill other people in order to be able to live on yourself. Both experience a number of adventures in the 22 episodes of the series and in the end Nick Wolfe himself becomes an immortal.

criticism

The series was discontinued after one season. The discontinuation of the series is due to the low audience figures. The reasons for the decline in viewers can be found in the concept. In the first few episodes of the series, viewers feel like they're watching a crime series rather than a fantasy series about immortals. Since the stories of the individual episodes were so little about the immortals, the audience soon stayed away. The producers tried to limit the audience loss and changed the stories of the episodes, it should again be more about immortality. Despite the changes, the end of the series could no longer be prevented.
