content

Connor MacLeod decides to leave Scotland after the death of Heather . The Highlander is drawn to distant Japan . There he meets the immortal Nakano, a magician who can create illusions. Nakano wants to pass on his knowledge to Connor and teaches him. A former student of Nakano named Kane wants to usurp his powers and puts him in a cave that MacLeod had previously left. With the help of his two immortal lackeys, Kane succeeds in defeating his former master. During the quickening (renewal), the cave collapses over the three immortals.

Approx. 400 years later, the archaeologist Alex Johnson is busy with excavations in Japan. Through these excavations, the three immortals are set free. One of the lackeys is sent to find MacLeod and the other is beheaded by Kane . Connor lives in Morocco with his adopted son John . He senses the liberation of Kane and sets off for New York , the meeting place. In a hospital he meets Kane's henchman and is able to take his head.

Alex Johnson examines a piece of cloth she found in the cave and is able to assign it to the Scottish Clan MacLeod. Her research leads her to Connor, who is currently fighting Kane. Since the fight takes place on holy ground, the two interrupt their argument. Kane kidnaps Connor's son John to force him to fight. The final duel takes place in an old factory. Connor wins and decides to spend the rest of his natural life with Alex.

Directors Cut

In the USA the film was released again as a “Special Directors Cut” on LaserDisc and DVD. In this film version, some scenes have been lengthened a bit, the visual effects have been restored and the song in the credits has been replaced.

Cut versions

  • The uncut theatrical version of the film was released in Europe, the cuts from the US theatrical version were not available.
  • Only in England were two scenes cut, but the rest of the film got a release from 15. This is the relatively harmless "sex scene" between Kane and the prostitute and the bed scene in Scotland with Connor and Alex Johnson.

backgrounds

  • Part of the film was shot in Morocco .
  • Connor MacLeod was originally supposed to die in this film, but this idea was discarded and only used in Highlander: Endgame . It was also planned to use the role of Brenda Wyatt from the first part again. Since Roxanne Hart canceled, it was decided to find a new lover for the Highlander.
  • Deborah Kara Unger originally wanted to use a body double when filming the love scene with Connor, but she later decided to play the scene herself.
  • During the shooting, the third part was known in fan circles as "Highlander - The Apology".
  • Mario Van Peebles got the role of Kane thanks to Christopher Lambert, who put in a good word for him. Both actors became friends while filming Gunmen .

Reviews

“Fantasy action spectacle with lots of pyrotechnic frills. The cinema debut of a video clip specialist who simply copies the original version over long distances without developing a profile in the cinematic design. Only a few trick sequences reveal your own handwriting. "
