Mario van Peebles (born January 15, 1957 in Mexico City ) is an actor and director .

Life

Mario van Peebles is a son of the director Melvin Van Peebles and the actress Maria Marx . In 1978 he graduated from Columbia University with a degree in economics . Under New York Mayor Edward I. Koch , van Peebles was jointly responsible for the redevelopment of the city's finances.

Mario van Peebles made his debut in the 1971 film Sweet Sweetback's Baad Asssss Song , which his father directed. He starred as Clint Eastwood in the 1986 film Heartbreak Ridge, Christopher Lambert in the 1994 film Highlander III, and Malcolm X in the 2001 film Ali, alongside Will Smith and Jon Voight Directors of the television series 21 Jump Street . In 2012 he played in The Asylum 's American Warships , which is a mockbuster on Peter Berg's Battleship .

He has appeared as a director since 1988, working for both film and television. His work includes more than 40 productions. As an actor, he has worked in more than 100 productions.

In 1991 van Peebles was on the list of the 50 most beautiful people in the world by People magazine . As a director he is assigned to the New Black Cinema alongside Spike Lee .
