Amicus Productions

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amicus (lat .: "friend") was a British film production company, which was founded in the early 1960s by the two American producers and screenwriters Milton Subotsky (1921–1991) and Max J. Rosenberg (1914–2004) and had its headquarters at Shepperton Studios , Middlesex , United Kingdom . After Subotsky left the company in 1975, production operations were discontinued, except for a few films that had yet to be completed.

Typical of Amicus were horror - Episode movies , so to speak, the hallmarks of Milton Subotsky. Several short episodes are linked to one another by a superordinate framework, including the narrator. Amicus also produced a number of science fiction films , including adaptations of Edgar Rice Burroughs 'novels and two films based on the then new television series Doctor Who ( Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150 AD ). These were already filmed in Technicolor when the series was still running in black and white .

In the 1960s and 1970s, Amicus was considered a competitor to the much better known Hammer studios. Even today, some Amicus films are mistakenly confused with hammer films. This is due to a similar visual style of the films and the often similar choice of key players (eg. As Peter Cushing or Christopher Lee ). In contrast to Hammer's historical horror films, amicus films are mostly set in the present.

Anchor Bay Entertainment released a five-DVD box of Amicus movies in a coffin-shaped container in 2003.
