The Sixth Continent is a fantasy film from 1976. It is based on the novel At the Earth's Core by Edgar Rice Burroughs .

action

With great public and press attention, Dr. Perry and his assistant David with a giant drill to explore the interior of the earth. After a turbulent journey, they land there in the realm of Pellucidar .

After defending themselves against a dinosaur-like creature with a parrot's head immediately after their arrival, they are captured by the primitive and brutal Sagoth and encounter fighting beasts that are similar to upright boars. They get to know the beautiful Dia, who, however, soon flees because David, ignorant of the customs of the people of Pellucidar, has compromised her through his behavior. In their new camp, they get to know the members of various warring tribes, all of whom have been enslaved by the Sagoth. These, in turn, are themselves under the telepathic-hypnotic influence of the Mahar, a people of intelligent flying reptiles.

After his escape, David frees a person who had previously attacked him from the clutches of a giant plant and befriends him. After witnessing a sacrifice ceremony by the Mahar, they both decide to induce the warring tribes to rebel against Mahar and Sagoth.

After their return, David is said to be sacrificed to a monster, but can defeat it. His new friend Ra can also successfully defend himself when he is attacked by a mahar. This stirs up the courage to rebel in the enslaved people.

David and Dr. Perry find Dia again and can defend her against a giant frog lizard that breathes flame. David can also defeat the warrior to whom Dia is promised.

David, Dr. Perry and her friends are now planning the uprising with their friends, which by the self-made arches according to Dr. Perry's plans are successful for the enslaved tribes. David's friend Ra, however, is seriously injured by a Sagoth and remains doomed in the mahar's sinking fortress.

At the wedding ceremony that followed, Dia tells David that she loves him, but still cannot accompany him into his world. Upon their return, David and Dr. Perry in White House Park the surface of the earth.
