Keith Barron

Keith Barron (born August 8, 1936 in Mexborough , South Yorkshire , England - † November 15, 2017 ) was a British actor .

Life

Barron attended Mexborough Technical College and then went into his parents' wholesale business. He also played at the amateur theater in his hometown. After his military service in the Royal Air Force , he joined the ensemble of the Sheffield Playhouse, where he made his debut in a small role in a production by Henrik Ibsen's Nora or A Doll's House . During his time at the Sheffield Playhouse, he met the set designer Mary Pickard, whom he married in 1959.

He gained fame among British television audiences from 1962 through his role as DS John Swift , first in the series The Odd Man , then in the spin-off It's Dark Outside . In 1967 he played the title role in the sitcom The Further Adventures of Lucky Jim . His greatest success was the portrayal of David Pearce in the sitcom Duty Free , which was decried as kitsch by the critics between 1984 and 1986, but still attracted up to 17 million viewers. He was also seen in numerous successful series in German-speaking countries, including Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone , Die Profis , Doctor Who and Law & Order: UK . In the crime series Inspector Banks he was seen in the recurring role as father of the eponymous inspector between 2012 and 2016.

Barron was mostly active in television and only occasionally appeared on the big screen. His slightly over a dozen feature films include Hunt through Fire , Caprona - The Forgotten Land , The Sixth Continent and Journey of the Damned .
