action

Jeff Randall and Marty Hopkirk run a small private detective agency where they usually only deal with minor offenses. In the pilot , Marty Hopkirk is murdered during his investigation. He then returns as a ghost that only his partner Jeff can see. Together they can solve the murder of Marty, but he cannot return to the afterlife in time and is condemned to remain on earth as a ghost for another 100 years.

After the initial shock, the potential of Marty's invisibility for their detective agency opens up for both of them. Marty's widow Jeannie also works there as a secretary, which is another reason for him to continue to work there as a ghost. Marty is invisible as a ghost, only Jeff can see him. His powers are initially limited, so he cannot manipulate objects. Occasionally he manages to take control of people through hypnosis in order to be able to exert direct influence. In later episodes other ghosts appear in addition to Marty, and he also learns to move objects and to travel through time .
