Kenneth Cope

Kenneth Cope (born June 14, 1931 in Liverpool , England ) is a British actor .

Life

Cope began his career in the theater. In 1952 he played in a production of the Bristol Old Vic Company in William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure alongside John Neville . From the mid-1950s he had his first engagements in film and television and was seen in several war films , among other things . Between 1961 and 1966 he played the character of Jed Stone in the soap opera Coronation Street . He also appeared in the satirical show That Was The Week That Was from 1962 to 1963 . In 1963 he had his first of three appearances in the Carry-on ... film series in a minor supporting role.

He became better known in Great Britain as Marty Hopkirk in the crime series Randall & Hopkirk - Detective Agency with Spirit , which was produced between 1969 and 1970. The series was first broadcast on German television 20 years later. Due to his increased popularity, he has now also received larger film roles in A Strike Seldom Comes Alone and The Totally Crazy Head Sister . He has also appeared in many guest roles, including Catweazle , Doctor Who and Waking the Dead .

When it came to a new edition of Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer in 2000 , he turned down a cameo . In August 2008 he returned after 42 years in his role as Jed Stone in the soap opera Coronation Street and appeared in 20 episodes of the series by 2009.

Cope has been married to actress Renny Lister since 1961 . His daughter Martha Cope is also an actress, and their two sons Nick and Mark were founding members of the Brit pop band The Candyskins .
