Spider-Man and his amazing friends (orig .: Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends , German at the beginning: "Spider-Man and his sensational friends") is an American animated series by the film production subsidiary of Marvel Comics . In the years 1981 to 1983 a total of three seasons were shot.

In addition to the well-known Marvel characters Spider-Man and Iceman , Firestar completes the group. Spider-Man and Iceman were previously known from the Marvel Universe, but Firestar was created specifically for the series. There are always references to other heroes of the Marvel Comics. So z. B. later explains that Firestar and Iceman used to be members of the X-Men .

content

Peter Parker aka Spider-Man is a college student at Empire State University in New York City . He finances his studies by working as a photographer at the Daily Bugle, whereby he of course often sells pictures of Spider-Man to the choleric publisher J. Jonah Jameson . On the side, of course, he still pursues his occupation as a superhero and takes care of his old Aunt May , with whom he also lives.

During his studies, he meets the students Bobby Drake and Angelica Jones, but without realizing that the two are mutants and also fight crime as Iceman and Firestar. After the three have revealed their secret identities to each other, they decide to become a team of superheroes - the "Spider Friends". In their first joint action, they successfully help entrepreneur Tony Stark (aka Iron Man ), who to thank them is setting up a high-tech laboratory in Aunt May's house. Bobby, Angelica and their dog Miss Lion move in with Peter. Only Aunt May is not allowed to know anything about her superpowers. During their fight, Spider-Man, Iceman and Firestar encounter the well-known villains from the Marvel universe, such as: B. the Green Goblin , Doctor Octopus , Mysterio , Kingpin , the Sandman or Kraven the Hunter .

The story is not told in the correct temporary order in the episodes. In the first episodes, the friends are already fighting each other as a well-rehearsed team. Only in the episode "Blinde Destructionwut" in the third season is it reported how this collaboration came about at all. Also, hardly any other characters are properly introduced, as they are assumed to be familiar from the Spider-Man comics.

main characters

Spider-Man aka Peter Parker

The main article Spider-Man describes the story of Peter Parker.

Firestar : Angelica Jones was a kid from a poor family who wasn't very lucky in life. Since she could not control her abilities and accidents often happened to her, she was teased by her classmates ( "Angelica the Witch" (Jinx Jones) ). After the sudden death of her beloved grandmother, she lived alone with her father, who was not aware of the strange heat forces that Angelica developed more and more during puberty . Only the first real use of her powers made her accept them. She saved her father and turned into Firestar for the first time. She wears a skin-tight, yellow suit, a red mask and her otherwise straight, brown hair becomes curly and fiery red. Angelica decided to become a superhero, but to keep her real identity a secret. Only later did she meet Iceman, who introduced her to the X-Men. Professor Xavier taught them how to use their powers properly. Firestar is a little stronger than a normal woman, she can generate microwave energy and release it in various forms (e.g. as fireballs, heat rays, walls of fire). The waves also create a glowing aura around her that she can use to fly. She can raise her body temperature so much that she can even melt rocks. Their weakness is coldness that makes them lose their strength.

The character of Firestar was introduced as a character in the Marvel mainstream comics after the success of the series with some changes . For more information, see Firestar and New Warriors .

Iceman : Robert "Bobby" Drake was born with the ability to freeze the moisture around him, but it wasn't until puberty that he learned to control the forces. Bobby can lower his body temperature to well below zero and also release freezing cold. In addition, he can produce snow and ice in almost any shape and even turn his entire body into ice. His eyes turn bright green. In order to move around, he can create an ice rink on which he slides forward. Extreme heat weakens his strength.

The series was produced by Marvel Productions, Mihahn and DePatie-Freleng from 1981 to 1983, with DePatie Freleng quitting after 15 episodes. The music was composed by Johnny Douglas. Some of the episodes are personally commented off- screen by inventor Stan Lee .

The episode "The trick with the mask" corresponds in large parts to the plot of the episode "Spider-Man versus Spider-Man" of the 1981 Spider-Man series.

The series aired in three seasons on NBC from September 12, 1981 to September 10, 1983 as a Saturday morning cartoon . In Germany, the series was broadcast for the first time from December 1, 1990 to May 4, 1991 on RTLplus . This was followed by repetitions on Fox Kids , Jetix and in the Premiere program.
