Saturday morning cartoon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saturday morning cartoon ( German  Saturday morning animated ) is called in the US animated series , which since the mid-1960s American US by the major television channels are broadcast, typically on Saturday morning.

Beginnings of the Saturday morning cartoons

Although the various networks already had a considerable number of young viewers on Saturday mornings, it was not until the mid-1960s that they realized how many more children they could attract with cartoons or children's programs in front of the television. Many programs, including some of the Hanna Barbera productions, were moved from prime time to Saturday mornings. Children could now be delighted with child-friendly programs for a full four hours, and advertising was not neglected even then .

Further career

In the mid-1980s, young people's interest in sitting down in front of the television on Saturday morning disappeared. On the one hand, the home video market began to develop and companies like Disney were able to bring higher quality cartoons into the living room, and on the other hand, television stations that specialized in broadcasting cartoon programs, such as Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon, started up . These made the Saturday morning cartoons seem less and less important.

Current situation

Many of the big broadcasters like NBC or CBS banned the cartoons entirely and presented the world with a more teenage- oriented program.

After the station ABC was bought by Disney in 1996, the Saturday Morning cartoons began to run again under the name Disney's One Saturday Morning . Most of the programs shown were from Disney itself and can also be seen on the Disney Channel . CBS did the same a short time later and showed programs from Nickelodeon on Saturday. Some other broadcasters followed suit.
