The Jetsons is an animated series that was produced by the Hanna Barbera studios from 1962 .

content

The main characters are father George, mother Jane, teenage daughter Judy, son Elroy, house dog Astro, robot assistant Rosie and George's boss, Mr. Spacely and his competitor Cogswell. The space creature Orbitty joins in the later episodes.

The Jetsons have robots, a collapsible flying saucer and intelligent computers due to technological advances , but human problems have not changed, only the father of the family, George Jetson, only has to work three times three hours a week thanks to technological advances .

people

George Jetson is a loyal father, head and bread-maker of the Jetson family. He works as a manager in Mister Spacely's company and is responsible for managing the warehouse, among other things. In his nature, he is easily clumsy and simple-minded and therefore tends to occasionally act rashly. On the other hand, his family is very important to him and he wants both his wife and children to be well.

Jane Jetson is the mother of the Jetson family. She is very loving by nature and therefore also very concerned about the well-being of her husband and her family. For the most part, she is busy standing by her husband's side and working on her appearance, as thanks to the many technical achievements she no longer has to worry too much about the household. Again and again it turns out that she has therefore not learned many household skills at all, for example she hardly knows how to cook.

Judy Jetson is the family's teenage daughter and, by her own account, one of the most popular (or even the most popular) girls in school. Therefore, it is also highly sought after by the boys and eager to please them.

Elroy Jetson is Judy's younger brother and thus the youngest child of the Jetson family. He is a very intelligent hobbyist and tinkerer, always inventing new things or constructing different robots with the help of his father or other people. Otherwise he is also very bright and interested in many things.

Astro is the Jetsons family dog. Apart from the fact that he can speak, he is a completely normal dog who always greets his master happily, does not like cats and does not always listen to his words.

Rosie is the family's household robot.

Orbitti is a very rare little alien being with a very good-natured and loving character who joins the Jetson family at the beginning of season 2 after Elroy brought home a supposed stone from a class trip, which later turns out to be an egg the orbitti slips. Instead of legs, he has spirals with which he can jump very high and quickly, and he also changes his color depending on his emotional state. Otherwise he is a very intelligent being, who is also able to repair defective devices, which he proves right at the beginning of his existence with the Jetsons, as he repairs George's television and razor.

Mr. Spacely is the boss and owner of the company George works for. He is a very short, irascible and moody man who often instrumentalizes George for his own purposes, even promises him to be Vice President of the company and also fires him at regular intervals, but in the end always hires him. His first name is Cosmo .

Henry is the caretaker of the apartment building where the Jetson family live. Above all, he is always available for solving various technical problems.

Production and publication

The series was produced in 1962 under the direction of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera . The music is by Hoyt Curtin. The series aired on ABC from September 23, 1962 through March 3, 1963 . The episodes were shown on ARD regional programs from February 23, 1970, and on RTL Television in the late 1980s . After 2000, the series was repeated on the pay TV channel Boomerang . It has also been translated into Spanish, Dutch and Finnish, among others.

From 1984 to 1987 further episodes of the series emerged, in the production of which Toei Animation participated. In a TV special, the Jetsons meet their “ancestors”, the Feuerstein family, on a journey back in time to the Stone Age . A cartoon was produced for the cinema.
