Charles Dawson Butler (born November 16, 1916 in Toledo , Ohio , † May 18, 1988 in Culver City , California ) was an American animated film - voice actor , mostly for Hanna Barbera's films .

Life

Butler performed as a parodist after finishing school in Chicago . During World War II he served two years in the US Navy , where he met his future wife. After the war he moved to Hollywood , where he initially worked for the radio. In 1949 he made his television debut as a voice actor in a children's puppet show. In the 1950s he acted as a spokesperson for cartoons by Tex Avery and Walter Lantz , and Butler and Stan Freberg published numerous successful comedy albums on Capitol Records . From the late 1950s he began working with Hanna-Barbera, where he spoke, among other things, Huckleberry Hound in Hucky and his friends , Quick Draw McGraw in Quick and his friends and Yogi Bear . In the second season of the Flintstones , Butler stood in for Mel Blanc , who was out of action due to a car accident, and voiced his voice for Barney Rubble . In the 1980s, Butler offered voice acting workshops. Nancy Cartwright was one of his students . He died of a heart attack at the age of 71. He was survived by his four sons and his wife, who only died in 2018 at the age of 101.
