The Legend of Rockabye Point is an American animated short film directed by Tex Avery in 1955.

action

An old ship captain tells the story of Rockabye Point that happened 20 years ago. At the time he had anchored near the rock himself and brought a large load of caught fish on board. They wanted to steal a polar bear and a penguin , but the little penguin was caught several times by the bear and removed from the ship. The polar bear, on the other hand, had to face an aggressive guard dog at the cooling chamber , which bit him as soon as he came near it. The Great Dane could only be appeased if you sang rock-a-bye baby to her , which the bear did time and again. The penguin, in turn, was now looking for different ways to wake the dog asleep, which led to several painful encounters between the bear and the dog. In the end, the polar bear thought he was on the run with a bag full of fish and climbed a high rock to inspect his catch. However, the watchdog was in the sack that the penguin had packed.

The ship's captain closes his story by saying that you can still hear the rock-a-bye-baby singing today . In fact, the now graying bear is still on the rock with the old watchdog and sings the song to him.

production

The Legend of Rockabye Point was released on April 11, 1955 as part of the Lantz animated film series Chilly Willy in US cinemas. In contrast to later cartoons with the penguin Chilly Willy, this only takes a supporting role in The Legend of Rockabye Point .
