Anthony Steffen

Anthony Steffen (* 21st July 1929 in Rome , Italy ; † 4. June 2004 in Rio de Janeiro ; actually Antonio Luis of Hoonholtz de Tefé , sometimes Antonio De Tefé ) was a Brazilian actor who frequently in spaghetti westerns played.

Life

Steffen was born in Rome as the son of a Brazilian diplomat, fought alongside Italian partisans against the Germans during the Second World War and finally began his film career in the 1950s as an assistant production and director before he became one of the most booked stars of the Spaghetti Western ( 26 films). After the boom in this genre, things got quieter for Steffen, who returned to his family's homeland, Brazil, at the end of the 1970s. After a long period of cancer, Steffen died on June 4th, 2004.

In his spaghetti westerns, Steffen usually played the avenger common in this genre, but with a clear emphasis on the suffering and humiliation that a 'loner' has to master and endure. He provided his roles with an unmistakable intensity. In some films, including his best dealt, Django and the gang of the bloodhounds ( Django il bastardo ), Steffen was also involved as a screenwriter and producer.
