action

The wealthy Lord Alan Cunningham has degenerated into an opaque and mentally unstable aristocrat after the death of his faithless wife Evelyn, whom he loved so deeply. He cannot overcome the death of his red-haired wife and is still under her spell, which downright traumatizes him. Since then, red-haired women inevitably trigger psychoses in him , which stir up his hatred, intensify him, until they even turn him into a pathological murderer of women. At this stage he then travels to his half-ruined country castle, where he assaults previously recruited prostitutes who are similar to Evelyn and tortures her to death.

Despite the psychiatric treatment by his friend and family doctor Dr. Richard Timberlane's seizures and visions are not diminished. Therefore, on the advice of his friend, he spontaneously marries the call girl Gladys, whom he hardly knows, in the hope of restoring his psychological balance. Lord Cunningham and his new wife are going through a brief, harmonious phase of happiness in the newly restored castle, when indications gather that his deceased Evelyn has emerged from her crypt and wants to take revenge on her successor.

This absurd thesis seems to come true when Evelyn's empty grave is found and bloody atrocities pile up around the English lord. Cunningham's blackmailing brother-in-law Albert and his ultra-conservative sister Agatha are killed under mysterious circumstances. However, all the events ostensibly only serve to drive the neurotic Alan insane, which apparently also succeeds in order to be able to inherit him after he has been diagnosed with complete mental insanity. His cousin George, also the main heir, turns out to be the mastermind, who forges the deadly plot with Gladys and another accomplice.

At the end of the film, George poisons Gladys with strychnine , who in turn fatally injures George's red-haired accomplice Susie, using her last strength. Then the astonished George is in the presence of the mentally stable Alan and his friend Dr. Timberlane received and arrested shortly afterwards by summoned police officers.

Reviews

“Kinky Horror Movie; a crude mixture of sex and brutality. "

“A tired psychological thriller whose dramaturgy you can see through quite quickly. That none of the actors, let alone the landscape reminiscent of England, should be mentioned in passing. "
