history

1960s - foundation

In 1964 five independent paper wholesalers merged: E. Michaelis & Co., Freytag & Petersen, Drissler & Co., the predecessors of Vereinigte Papiergroßhandlungen and 2H-Papier. In 1969, Karl-Heinz Geiger joined the company as the sixth partner. Their aim was to establish common structures for procurement and the range in order to gain greater market significance vis-à-vis suppliers and to be able to supply customers more effectively.

1970s - construction

The aim was a uniform appearance and common measures for advertising material and campaigns. The common claim “We are paper” was used until the turn of the century. The distribution of own brands proved to be successful. From 1989 a paper consultant service is offered.

1990s - Presence on the Eastern markets

The IGEPA has been present in eastern Germany since the opening began to open up new markets. The partner companies founded the IGEPA Papiergroßhandel GmbH based in Queis near Leipzig; shortly afterwards a location in Ottendorf (Saxony) follows . At the same time, joint subsidiaries and holdings are also created in Eastern Europe.

In February 1993, the state cartel authority of North Rhine-Westphalia imposed legally binding fines on Freytag & Petersen (company company of the IGEPA group) and other major companies in the industry because of the coordination of sales prices in the warehouse business.

2000s - expansion overseas

The IGEPA reacted to the challenges of globalization by gaining partners in overseas markets (Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, USA). At the end of this decade, Igepa had 35 companies in more than 29 countries.

In 2004, the Federal Cartel Office imposed against various paper wholesalers and also the company companies of the IGEPA group (Freytag & Petersen GmbH & Co., E. Michaelis & Co., Vereinigte Papier Papiergroßhandlungen GmbH & Co. KG, Drissler & Co. Papiergroßhandel GmbH & Co. KG and the subsidiaries Hansa-Papier GmbH & Co. KG and IGEPA Papiergroßhandel GmbH Queis) and other major companies in the industry fines for prohibited price fixing.

Since November 2004 the six partner companies and the other companies in Germany have been FSC -certified for the product groups office communication papers, graphic papers, cardboard and envelopes.

In January 2008, the IGEPA-group-company Queis occurred in the camp IGEPA paper wholesale GmbH Landsberger district a serious industrial accident . After a high rack was damaged and collapsed in a collision between two forklifts on January 15, all 16 racks in the warehouse with a total amount of over 5000 tons collapsed the next day with a domino effect and buried five people, one of whom was a company employee and one Technical relief workers could only be recovered dead.

2010s

On July 1, 2012, the IGEPA group took over the company x-doc-solution GmbH, Berlin, which was created in 2003 by Axel Merker from the direct sales organization of Xerox GmbH. With over 500 installed customer solutions for production printing, it has developed into a leading sales company in Eastern Germany over the years. X-doc-solution GmbH has its headquarters in Berlin and a branch in Leipzig.

Shortly before Christmas 2013, IGEPA wholesale GmbH moved its branch from Dietzenbach to the new location in Dieburg . With the commissioning of the new high-bay warehouse, 20,000 pallet spaces and the option of additional storage space have been created.
