Renato Scarpa (born September 14, 1939 in Milan , † December 30, 2021 in Rome ) was an Italian actor .

Life

Scarpa made his film debut in 1969 in the film drama In the Sign of the Scorpion by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani . A few years later he played one of his most famous roles in Nicolas Roeg's thriller When the Gondolas Bear Mourning ; alongside Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland , he was seen as Inspector Longhi . In 1975 he played in Roberto Rossellini's The Messiah for the first time in a film adaptation of the Bible . In 1975 he performed in Flatfoot Clean Up alongside Bud Spencer ; further joint appearances followed in 1981A fist goes west as well as in the six-part television series Two Angels with Four Fists from 1997, in which he played Father Campana . In the documentary film Santini’s Network directed by Georg Brintrup from 2014, he played the lead role of the music collector Fortunato Santini .

Scarpa also played small roles in a number of major Hollywood productions such as The Talented Mr. Ripley and The Tourist . On television he could be seen in 1998 alongside Gérard Depardieu and Ornella Muti in the literary film adaptation of The Count of Monte Christo ; He also took part in numerous television productions based on biblical themes, including The Bible - Joseph , The Bible - Abraham and The Bible - Esther .
