The Charterhouse of Parma is a TV drama in six episodes from 1982 that was produced by RAI , ITF Polytel Italiana and the German Tele München Gruppe . Directed by Mauro Bolognini . The drama follows the plot of the novel of the same name by Stendhal from 1839.

action

Fabrizio del Dongo, a young nobleman raised by his mother and aunt, volunteers in Napoleon's army and fights in the Battle of Waterloo . Disappointed in his hopes for fame, Fabrizio returns to Parma . He is now aiming for a career in the church and takes part in court life. However, because of his contacts with an anarchist, he is forced to leave the city. He is captured and imprisoned in the citadel . Here he falls in love with Clelia, the prison governor's daughter, who helps him escape. Fabrizio eventually gets together with Clelia and has a son with him.

As an old man, after the deaths of Clelia and the child, he retired to the Charterhouse to await his own death there.
