Mauro Bolognini
Mauro Bolognini (born June 28, 1922 in Pistoia , † May 14, 2001 in Rome ) was an Italian film director .
Life
Bolognini first studied architecture in Florence and from 1947 directing at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. After completing his studies, he worked as an assistant director to Luigi Zampa in Italy and to Yves Allégret and Jean Delannoy in France . In 1953 he made his debut film as a director with Ci troviamo in galleria , other feature films followed. In the so-called epoch of the “ second Italian neorealism ”, Bolognini developed his own style and at the beginning of the 1960s addressed the life of the poor in contrast to the rich in his country. During this time three of his most important works were created: Bel Antonio , When life beckons and The house in Via Roma .
He gained fame above all for his literary adaptations of important Italian post-war literature, including works by Pier Paolo Pasolini , Alberto Moravia , Mario Pratesi and Vasco Pratolini , which he also realized for television. Towards the end of his career he turned to lyric opera.
