Jon Polito

Jon Polito (born December 29, 1950 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † September 1, 2016 in Duarte , California ) was an American actor .

Live and act

The Italian-born Jon Polito grew up in Philadelphia. He later received a scholarship to the private Catholic Villanova University , where he studied drama . From there he tried to gain a foothold in the New York theaters. His career as a stage actor soon took him to Broadway , where he starred in the plays American Buffalo and alongside Faye Dunaway in Curse of an Aching Heart . On Off-Broadway , Jon Polito played alongside Sigourney Weaver in the play Gemini .

After Jon Polito had mainly played theater, he made his television debut in 1981 with the American television film Until the Last Shot and in 1982 with American Killing his cinema debut. From then on, he was often cast as a gangster or police officer in movies and television productions . For example, he was part of the permanent cast of the police series Homicide and Crime Story . Jon Polito was also a popular cast member with the Coen brothers , who used him in five of their films: Miller's Crossing , Barton Fink , Hudsucker , The Big Lebowski, and The Man Who Wasn't There . His work includes more than 200 productions.

One of his trademarks for a long time was his dark, thin and almost linear mustache . Jon Polito died of complications from cancer at the age of 65.
