Konrad Pätzold (2009)

Konrad Pätzold (born April 8, 1928 in Landeshut , Lower Silesia Province ; † January 6, 2017 in Witzenhausen ) was a German civil engineer .

Professional life

After participating in the war and being an American prisoner of war , Pätzold first learned the carpentry trade before he graduated from the Kassel State Building School. From 1956 to 1991 he worked in the Göttingen district ( Münden district until 1972 ). From 1972 he was responsible for the district roads as a senior technical employee . Since 2003 he lived in Witzenhausen - Hundelshausen .

Honorary positions

Konrad Pätzold held several honorary positions in addition to his professional activity . For many years he was active as the disaster control officer of the German Red Cross in the Münden district, in leading positions in the parish council and in the church council of the Catholic parish of St. Elisabeth in Hann. Münden and in the local association of the CDU in Hann. Münden. He took up the honorary position of lay judge at the Hann. Münden and at the Göttingen regional court .

With the increasing permeability of the borders since 1980, Pätzold, as a volunteer landscape and district supervisor of the Sudetendeutsche Landsmannschaft for Luditz, with his first wife Eugenia, who died in 1997, organized regular trips for former Egerlanders to the Czech Republic , which led to contacts with people and local authorities. A visible sign of his active reconciliation efforts is the bilingual memorial and warning plaque erected in Žlutice in 1996 , which is dedicated to all victims of war, violence and displacement .

Award

In 2009 Konrad Pätzold was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his “excellent commitment in numerous honorary positions” .
