Deborah Ruth Lurie (born March 9, 1974 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American composer .

Life

Deborah Ruth Lurie grew up in Palo Alto , California . She started playing the piano at the age of two before taking professional piano lessons at the age of six. Thanks to the artistic and cultural support of her parents, she often attended theater performances and musicals, so that they strengthened her interest in music composition and she began to compose music herself based on her listening skills. After composing a stand-alone piece for the theater production A Midsummer Night's Dream in her high school for the first time, she began studying composition at the University of Southern California , which she successfully completed in 1997.

After receiving tutors from Christopher Young , among others , it was John Ottman who gave her the first opportunities to compose under his direction, before spending several years under Danny Elfman for films such as Hellboy - The Golden Army , Spider-Man 2 and Wanted composed and directed the orchestra. In addition to the joint composition with Elfman at 9 , she is best known for her work on Suddenly in love , an untamed life and Mozart and the whale .
