reception

The film does not offer any new insights into the main characters of One Piece , but an "exciting story" as a side story to the series, according to Animania . The computer animation is at a good level for its time and "the orchestral, sometimes melancholy-dark music reflects the mood of the film very well". The German synchronization was also successful. Overall, the film delivers “wonderful seaman's yarn for young and old” and “everything from action to humor”. Despite the colorful backdrop, the anime is rather dark and serious compared to others in the series.
