Bajanauyl ( Kazakh Баянауыл ; Russian Баянаул Bajanaul ) is a settlement and a district and a small mountain range in northeast Kazakhstan in the Pavlodar region .

View of the settlement

The district is around 18,500 km² (roughly the size of Saxony ), but has only 25,000 inhabitants (2020). The main town of the district is the settlement of the same name Bajanauyl with 5,544 inhabitants (2020). Although Bajanauyl is very village-like, it is now officially run as a settlement. 86.5% of the district's residents are Kazakhs today, 9.5% Russians and 1.6% (i.e. around 500 people) are Germans (2002). Famous citizens of the Bayanauyl are the writer Sultanmachmut Toraighyrow , the filmmaker Schäken Aimanow and the academic Qanysch Satbayev . A museum is dedicated to the latter in Bajanauyl. Furthermore, a wealthy resident donated a new mosque to the place .
