The Pavlodar region ( Kazakh Павлодар облысы / Pawlodar oblysy ; Russian Павлодарская область / Pavlodarskaja oblast ) is an administrative unit in the northeast of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the border with Russian Western Siberia . The area of the area is 125,000 km² (comparison: five new federal states together approx. 108,000 km²), but the population is only 750,000 inhabitants (beginning of 2020).
geography
Steppe is the predominant form of landscape. The water-rich Irtysh , coming from the Altai , is the district's lifeline. It also feeds the Irtysh-Karaganda Canal , which carries drinking water south through the steppe.
economy
The Pavlodar Region has rich mineral resources, which are the basis of the Pavlodar-Ekibastus Territorial Production Complex with large-scale industry.
In the last few years the area used for agriculture has decreased significantly. However, until the fall of the Soviet Union , agriculture played a very important role in the district.
history
From 1932 to 1938 the Irtysh Plain around Pavlodar was still part of the Eastern Kazakhstan region, the administrative seat of which was Semipalatinsk . The Pavlodar region was re-established on January 15, 1938 by resolution of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and confirmed in the Kazakh administrative reform of 1997.
