Jerlan Aryn

Jerlan Muchtaruly Aryn ( Kazakh Ерлан Мұхтарұлы Арын , Russian Ерлан Мухтарулы Арын ; born September 23, 1961 in Alma-Ata , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh politician.

Life

Jerlan Aryn graduated from the Kirov State University of Kazakhstan in Alma-Ata with a degree in economics in 1983 .

After graduating, he worked at the Kazakh Pedagogical Institute until 1985. From 1985 to 1992 he worked at the Kazakh Academy of Sciences as a research assistant and doctoral student. He was then deputy director of the Center for Strategic Research at KIMEP and from 1993 to 1994 deputy director of the Kazakh Institute for Strategic Studies. Between 1994 and 1997 he was President of the Institute for Development. From November 1997 Aryn was first Deputy Minister for Education, Culture and Health, from January 1999 first Deputy Minister for Education, Culture and Health and from November of that year first Deputy Minister for Education and Science. In February 2001 he became the rector of Pavlodar State University . He held this position until 2012, with a short break from February to April 2008. On January 20, 2012, he was appointed Äkim (governor) of the Pavlodar region .

On December 20, 2013, Aryn resigned from his post as Äkim as a result of a corruption scandal in the regional administration. On March 6, 2014, he was also arrested by the Kazakh financial police. On November 26, 2014, a court in Pavlodar sentenced him to three years in prison for money laundering, financial fraud and bribery. After he had previously shown his loyalty to President Nursultan Nazarbayev , the sentence was suspended.
