Aqsu ( Kazakh Ақсу - " stream "; Russian Аксу Aksu ) is a city in eastern Kazakhstan in the Pavlodar region .

It has 41,639 inhabitants. The name Aksu is used by the Turkic peoples for several rivers in the range, including the Kazakhs. His name in Chinese is Akesu Shi , for the city of the same name Aksu in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang in the People's Republic of China , through which the Tarim River flows.

Geographical location

Aqsu is located in the Pavlodar region about 50 km south of the regional capital Pavlodar on the left bank of the Irtysh River .

history

The city was founded in 1897 as the settlement Glinka (Глинка). In 1913 the place was renamed Yermak (Ермак) and received city rights in 1961. The city has had its current name since 1993.

economy

The city's economy is closely related to the coal deposits in the Ekibastus area. One of the factories of the Kazchrome mining company is located in Aqsu .

traffic

There is a train station in Aqsu , which until 2001 served as the terminus of a junction from the Nur Sultan - Pavlodar route. In June 2001 this junction was extended to the Dagelen railway station near Kurchatov . Thus, the north Kazakh route network was connected to the east Kazakh.
