Irtysh-Karaganda Canal

The Irtysh-Karaganda Canal (officially academics Satbayev channel ; Russian: Канал имени Каныша Сатпаева or канал Иртыш-Караганда ) is located in Kazakhstan and supplied in the steppe industrial city located Karaganda (formerly Russian Karaganda ) (about 400,000 inhabitants) with water.

Technical specifications

The unique canal is 502 km long and is open. From the water-rich Irtysch -Tal near Pawlodar (beginning of the channel 51 ° 59 '37 "  N , 76 ° 59' 30"  O ) to the dry Qaraghandy (channel end 49 ° 58 '22 "  N , 73 ° 15' 49"  O ) overcomes the channel About 500 m difference in altitude, 22 pumping stations are necessary for this. Construction began in 1962 and was completed in 1971 .
