Sultanmachmut Toraighyrow ( Kazakh -kyrillisch Сұлтанмахмұт Торайғыров , Russian Султанмахмут Торайгыров / Sultanmachmut Toraigyrow * 29. October 1893 in Kyzyl Tau (near Kokshetau ); † 21st May 1920 ) was a Kazakh writer and poet .

life and work

Born in Kyzyl Tau (near Kökschetau), he came to Bajanaul in the Pavlodar region when he was four years old . At the age of 13 he wrote his first poems. From the autumn of 1913 he worked as an editorial secretary for the first Kazakh journal Aikap . In 1914 and 1915 he worked as a teacher in Bajanaul. In 1916 he moved to Tomsk before he went to Semei in 1917 after the February Revolution . During this time he was able to develop his talent and was very productive as a writer.

Toraighyrov is the author of numerous volumes of poetry and one of the first Kazakh novels, Красавица Камар , which was published posthumously in 1933. He was also very active politically, both as an advocate of Kazakh national interests and as a supporter of the new Soviet ideas. Since he died very young in 1920, he could no longer follow the development of the Soviet Union .

Today Toraighyrow is highly respected as a national writer in Kazakhstan. B. the State University in Pavlodar named after him.
