Black, the black flash is a family series in 78 episodes, which was produced between 1990 and 1993 in three seasons. It is based on Walter Farley's book for young people with the title Blitz, the Black Stallion and is very free with the content, for example in the form that only a few characters are taken over, based on whose own stories were developed.

The 17-year-old jockey Alec Ramsey moves from one race to the next with his trainer and father substitute Henry Dailey and his best friend, the wild Arabian stallion Black , where they experience different adventures that are told in 78 episodes. Alec's mother Belle is a single parent after the death of Alec's father and works on the Hopeful Farm, which includes a riding stable and the French riding instructor Pierre Chastel. Alec is the only one who can ride the black horse and he never loses a race.

The series, which was filmed in France, Canada and New Zealand, was based on the two 1979 and 1983 films The Black Stallion and The Black Stallion Returns , in which Kelly Reno played Alec Ramsey . However, this time he was not intended for the part because he was already too old at the age of 24 and he could not accept the role for personal reasons.
Although Richard Ian Cox became known for this role and he was nominated three times for the Young Artist Award over the course of 3 years (he received the award once), Oscar- nominated Mickey Rooney and Black remained the stars of the series. Mickey Rooney, who played the role of ex-jockey and trainer Henry Dailey in the two films, was nominated for his dramatic lead at the 1992 Gemini Awards .
