action

McGill, whose first name is never mentioned in the course of the series or is answered by him with "Mister", is a former secret agent of the CIA . He was released six years earlier after a senior scientist defected to the Soviet Union and failed to prevent it. Although he acted on the direct orders of his superior, he was killed in a boat accident and therefore could not exonerate McGill. When McGill finds evidence that his former boss Harry Thyssen has only faked his death and that he is the victim of intrigue, he tries to prove his innocence and to rehabilitate himself. He works as a private detective in various European countries because he is denied entry to the United States . During his investigations, he is repeatedly caught in the crosshairs of international secret services.

background

With The Man with the Suitcase , ITV wanted to fill the gap that had resulted from the departure of Patrick McGoohan from the successful agent series Secret Mission for John Drake , as he had started production of number 6 . Richard Bradford was the show's only regular actor, with guest stars including Colin Blakely , Bernard Lee and Donald Sutherland .

From December 1968 to May 1969, the ARD broadcast 13 episodes of the series in the Friday evening program. From January 1971 a further 13 episodes were broadcast in the ARD regional programs. The theme song is by Ron Grainer , who also wrote the theme for Doctor Who and number 6 . German voice actor for Richard Bradford was Michael Chevalier .

The series was released on DVD in the UK and Australia .
