Das Tier II (OT: Howling II - Stirba - Werewolf Bitch , alternative title: Howling II - My Sister is a Werewolf ) is an American horror film and the first of seven sequels to the film Das Tier from 1981.

content

The second part ties in with the plot of the first. The film begins with the funeral of the journalist Karen, who was shot on camera in the first part when she turned into a werewolf . Karen's brother Ben and her best friend Jenny get to know the werewolf hunter and occult expert Stefan Crosscoe after Karen's funeral . He explains to them that Karen is a werewolf and can only calm down if you stick a silver needle through her heart.

Ben is anything but taken with this idea. When Stefan messes with Karen at night, Ben is already there to stop him. But besides Ben there are werewolves who want to get Karen. After that night, Ben is convinced that Stefan spoke the truth. Stefan explains to Ben and Jenny that this all comes from the werewolf queen Stirba and that you have to destroy her. So the three of them set off for Transylvania , where Stirba's castle is located. What the two don't know: Stefan is Stirba's brother. Accompanied by some helpers, they make their way to the castle. But they are expected there. The village in which you arrive is preparing for the "Festival of the Full Moon". The rebirth of Stirba is approaching. Stefan finds like-minded people who want to put a stop to the activities of the werewolf queen.

Ben and the short Vasile chase the American werewolf Mariana. However, they are discovered. While Ben escapes, Vasile is killed. Meanwhile, Jenny is on her way to the camp. However, she runs into a traitor and is now held captive in the castle of Stirba. Stefan and Ben gather the remaining members of the resistance and storm the castle. While Ben can free Jenny, Stefan meets Stirba. With a trick he manages to kill his sister, who burns them both.

Shortly after, it's Halloween . Ben and Jenny now live together. A child in a wolf costume rings the doorbell and disappears again.

background

Parts of the film were shot in Český Krumlov and Prague , Czech Republic . A shortened version of the film was released on video in German-speaking countries. A DVD version from Austria that has not been cut is a bootleg . After the film was removed from the index, it received the approval “16 years and older” after a re-examination in Germany.

criticism

The first sequel to Das Tier was critically treated as a B-movie , which was largely noted for its trashy character. The special effects are on a very low level and the costumes of the actors are ridiculous. The castle is only painted on, and Transylvania consists of only one street. In addition, the scene in which Sybil Danning shows her breasts is repeated twice in the film and about ten times in the credits. Some critics also referred to the film as "one of the worst sequels in horror history and probably one of the worst movies ever made" ("One of the worst sequels and perhaps one of the worst horror films ever made"). In the opinion of the critics, this sequel has little to do with the successful first part.

The lexicon of the international film judged that the film was a "hair-raising mixture of" Gothic "and modern horror elements with some very artistically photographed scenes that permanently fall back into the most primitive sex and violence orgies imaginable."

Christopher Lee apologized for the poor sequel to director Joe Dante , who also directed The Beast , in 1990 while filming Gremlins 2 - The Return of the Little Monsters .
