Kau-ur (spelling variants Kauur and Kaur ) is a town in the West African state of Gambia .
According to a calculation for 2013, about 1957 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census from 1993 was 2300.
geography
The village of Kau-ur is located in the Central River Region , Lower Saloum District , on the right, northern side of the Gambia River at 43 m . On the North Bank Road , Gambia's second most important highway, the place is about 37 kilometers east of Farafenni . The Belel Forest Park is in the immediate vicinity . The numerous Senegambian stone circles can also be found in this region, east of Kau-ur .
The mangroves can be found up to here, around 200 kilometers from the mouth of the river in the Atlantic Ocean . Further up the river, the vegetation is determined by gallery forest .
economy
The place is one of the most important inland ports in the Gambia, two thirds of the country's peanut production is loaded onto barges here in Kau-ur and transported across the river to the seaport in Banjul . In addition, an operation of the state marketing organization, the Gambia Produce Marketing Board (GPMB), is based here. The GPMB processes part of the harvest into peanut oil .
