Amda Seyon I.
Amda Seyon I. ( Ethiop . ዐምደ ጽዮን, German "Pillar of Zion", nickname Gabra Masqal ገብረ መስቀል, German "Servant of the Cross") (* 1314 ; † 1344 ) was an Ethiopian emperor.
As regent, he consolidated the empire and expanded its borders. His reign also brought a consolidation of the Christian empire, so that the Ethiopian Church accepted him into the ranks of the saints (Senkessaries) , although at the beginning of his rule he was at odds with the clergy . During his reign there was also a cultural boom, especially in Ethiopian literature.
