The film is based on the stage work Sixteen by the Scottish authors Aimée Stuart and Philip Stuart . In the lead role embodies Lil Dagover the fashion designer Jennifer Lawrence.

action

Jennifer Lawrence is a successful and famous fashion designer who meets explorer John Corbett at a party on the Riviera Beach . When the two meet again in Paris, John suddenly proposes to her.

At first surprised, Jennifer first invites John to a birthday party in England to celebrate the birthday of her daughter Irene together. At first Irene is not particularly happy about the strange man and observes his activities with suspicion. Irene fears that a strange man could penetrate her mother's life because she is very attached to her deceased father and doesn't really want her mother to get to know another man. She doesn't know that her mother's marriage to her father was more torture than joy. Accordingly, she is completely angry when she observes that John tries to approach her mother. John is uncomfortable with this hostility, whereupon he leaves the house.

Jennifer herself, recognizes from John's behavior that he is a person with a good character. Her feelings for him strengthen and she decides to go after him. She also makes it clear to her daughter that she has to respect her mother's decisions.
