action

While her husband was a prisoner of war, Christa Hübner made a living as a doctor. After his return, Walter Huebner can no longer work as an actor in the profession he has learned because he lost an arm in the war. In order to get back to work at all, he takes a job at a slot machine company, which of course does not satisfy him. His wife is now a recognized doctor and hardly has time to look after him. Their exaggerated sense of duty tarnishes the formerly happy marriage. Christa's sister Ursula, who lives with them, involuntarily deepens the estrangement between them. One day she lets herself be carried away by the unconscious affection for her brother-in-law, to violent accusations against her sister. Since she can no longer deal with the situation, she leaves the shared apartment and earns a living as a mannequin. When Walter has problems with his work and he cannot expect any help from Christa, because she has gone to a congress, he goes to Ursula to seek consolation there. The passion that has now flared up cannot be stopped.

Due to the brief separation, a change has taken place in Christa. She cares more than before about her husband, who is regaining his self-confidence through a new artistic challenge. Then Christa learns that Ursula is expecting a child from Walter. After careful consideration, she decides to forego her own happiness and release Walter. In the meantime, Ursula has realized that Walter doesn't love her. She desperately looks for a way to abort the child. However, due to a serious fall, this search is no longer necessary. She won't have a child.

Rethinking their life again, Christa and Walter begin a new phase of life. Love will show them the way - love without illusion.
