John Cater

John Edward Cater (born January 17, 1932 in Hendon , London , England , † March 21, 2009 ) was a British actor .

Life

Cater was enrolled in a dance school by his parents at the age of four. During the Second World War he was evacuated to Devon . After finishing his school education, he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art from 1948 . He had to interrupt his acting training because of his military service in the Royal Army Educational Corps . After graduating, he was engaged at the Dundee Repertory Theater in Dundee . In 1961 he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company . From the 1960s, Cater was seen in numerous television productions, including guest roles in series such as Mit Schirm, Charme and Melone , Doctor Who , Department S and Die Füchse . He also played one of the leading roles in the series The Hotel on Duke Street between 1976 and 1977 . He is most likely known to German-speaking audiences for his portrayal of Thomas in the television film Der kleine Lord, which is repeated every year at Christmas time, alongside Alec Guinness and Ricky Schroder . He also played alongside Vincent Price in the two horror films The Cabinet of Horrors of Dr. Phibes and The Return of Dr. Phibes the Superintendent Waverley . Most recently he was seen in the science fiction film Alien Autopsy - Das All zu Gast bei Freunde and in a guest role in the crime series Inspector Barnaby .

He was married to actress Wendy Gifford since 1963, and the marriage resulted in two daughters.
