Suspense (radio play series)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Suspense was an American radio play series that was first broadcast on June 17, 1942 by the CBS . Over 900 episodes had been produced by the time it was discontinued in 1962.

The name of the crime series ( suspense means “tension” or “uncertainty” in German) was programmatic. The topics came from the areas of crime and mystery. As usual in the 1940s, the individual episodes were introduced by a narrator who called himself "The Man in Black". Well-known film stars such as Reginald Gardiner and Olivia de Havilland starred in the series.

The manuscripts came from, among others, the crime author John Dickson Carr (1906-1977), directed mostly William Spier (1906-1973).
