Rolf Boysen
Rolf Boysen (born March 31, 1920 in Flensburg , † May 16, 2014 in Munich ) was a German actor .
Life
Boysen completed a commercial apprenticeship in Hamburg after graduating from high school in 1939 and then became a soldier in World War II . After his return from the war he took acting lessons and received his first engagement in 1948 at the Dortmund City Theater . After further positions in the theaters in Kiel , Hanover and Bochum , Boysen was for the first time an ensemble member of the Münchner Kammerspiele from 1957 to 1968 . He worked with prominent theater directors of the last century: he played under Fritz Kortner 1962, the title role in Othello by William Shakespeare . Later, in Kortner's last production before his death in 1970, Clavigo by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe together with Thomas Holtzmann . Under Kortner he also played Jean in Miss Julie by August Strindberg . Erwin Piscator cast him as Duke Alba in Don Karlos by Friedrich Schiller . Boysen continued his successful years in Munich in 1968 in Hamburg at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus . Here he stayed in the ensemble until 1978, when he returned to the Münchner Kammerspiele. He gave guest appearances in Berlin , Vienna and Düsseldorf in the 1970s .
Dieter Dorn had with him in Berlin, the hunting party of Thomas Bernhard staged and was now director became the Kammerspiele in Munich. Dorn now became his most important director. Boysen stayed at the Kammerspiele until Dorn switched to the Bavarian State Theater in 2001. His incarnation of King Lear in a Dorn production became legendary for many years . He played Ulysses in Dorn's production of Troilus and Cressida at the side of Peter Lühr and Sunnyi Melles . Fritz Marquardt cast him as Nathan the Wise from Gotthold Ephraim Lessing . Thomas Langhoff saw him as Serbryakov in Uncle Vanya by Anton P. Chekhov .
At the Bavarian State Theater, when Boysen was already over 80, he gave a moving Shylock in The Merchant of Venice . During his time at the Residenztheater , the roles of Karl in Thomas Bernhard's The Appearance Deceiving and those of Dionysus in the Bacchus by Euripides also fall . Boysen had his last stage appearance in July 2012 with the reading Der Wij by Nikolai Gogol in the series Nachtseiten of the Residenztheater.
Boysen was also repeatedly seen in films, for example in A Village Without Men , 1969 with Peter Weck and Ernst Waldbrunn or in the 86th episode of Derrick : Percentage . In 1966 he received the Golden Camera . His portrayal of Wallenstein in the television multipart Wallenstein from 1978, directed by Franz Peter Wirth, was outstanding . He was just as convincing in portraying the Duke of Alba in the 1984 television film Egmont , also directed by Wirth.
As a voice actor, Boysen lent his voice to Bela Lugosi (Dracula) , Pierre Mondy ( The Count of Monte Christo , 1961), Leonard Nimoy (Columbo: Two Lives on a Thread) , Eli Wallach (The Winner) and Peter Jones ( The Hitchhiker's Guide across the galaxy ) .
He was the father of a daughter and two sons: Markus Boysen is also an actor, and Peer Boysen is a director and set designer.
